Avengers: Endgame is a 2019 film based on the Marvel Comics. It is the 22nd film in the MCU ( Marvel Cinematic Universe) and the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War. The film was directed by the Russo brothers (Anthony and Joe Russo) and it tells the story of the remaining Avengers and their allies as they struggle to reverse the damage caused by Thanos after his snap.
Initially, the film was titled Avengers: Infinity War—part 2, but it was later changed as the actual title was revealed to fans. This was a highly anticipated sequel after the release of the Infinity War the previous year. It concluded the story arcs for many of the major characters. The film broke many of the records held by its prequel and amounted to Marvel’s largest marketing campaign. It surpassed Infinity War within eleven days of release and became the highest-grossing film of all time. On its release, the film was highly acclaimed for direction, acting, visual effects, and more. It also received several awards and several nominations. It won two of three nominations at the 25th Critic’s Choice Awards.
By the end of the film, the Avengers and their allies manage to bring back the previously lost people and return all things to normal. Near the end, after Tony’s funeral Bruce Banner ( the Hulk) assigns Steve Rogers ( Captain America) the task of returning all the stones to their proper timelines. Rogers undertakes this final task as an Avenger and after returning all the stones to their times, he returns to his original timeline. He lives his life with Penny and the two create their own family together. Hence, in the end, we see an old Rogers who passes his shield and mantle on to Sam Wilson.
