How did Aang die in Avatar?

1 Answer

  1. Aang is the main protagonist of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series aired on Nickelodeon from February 2005 to July 2008 and also has an animated sequel. The show is set in a world with East Asian influence. The people of the Four nations can control the natural elements of Fire, Earth, Water, and Wind through a technique known as bending. Among these people is a single person known as the Avatar who holds mastery over all four of the elements.

Aang is an Air bender, the last of the Air Nomads who were wiped out by the Fire nation long ago. The 12-year-old is shown as a powerful yet calm and naive child who treasures his bonds with the people and places present around him. His first appearance shows him trapped in an iceberg. He is freed from his century-long prison by Katara and her brother Sokka. The group travels and grows together as they attempt to defeat the Fire Nation and end what became known as the Hundred Year War. On their adventures, Aang also eventually learns to control all the other elements and fully acquire the title of Avatar.

After completing his task of defeating the Fire Nation and returning peace to the nations Aang is shown to have a family. He is shown with three children: Bumi, Kya, and Tenzin. The Avatar is outlived by his partner Katara. According to the creators, Aang lost a lot of years of his life from his time in the iceberg. For that reason, he died of natural causes, happy and content at the biological age of 66 (otherwise 166), even though long lifespans are not unusual in the Avatar universe. He was the second-longest living Avatar, only surpassed by his predecessor Roku who lived a life of 230 years.
